A Fort-ful wedding marquee
A Fort-ful wedding marquee
We felt privileged to provide a marquee for a wedding at Nothe Fort in Weymouth recently. This historic Victorian fort on Dorset's famous Jurassic Coast is now licensed for wedding ceremonies and is a unique and impressive setting.
The structure provided by the team at Marquee Elegance was a 9mx15m standard marquee erected in the Parade Ground. We also provided circular tables, chairs and table linen so that the bride and groom could entertain their 100 guests. The venue styling and finishing touches and were added by Perfect Day Wedding Services, Weymouth.
The elegant simplicity of this marquee worked well within the setting, not detracting attention away from Nothe's impressive architecture or the beautiful views of Weymouth Harbour and the Jurassic Coast.
The Parade Ground itself is a large, sheltered, flat area offering some protection from the elements and the perfect base on which to erect a marquee.
The client opted for our hardwood flooring system which meant that the marquee did not require stakes to anchor the structure down. This was vital on a site like Nothe Fort because we didn't want to damage the historic remains and disturb the tunnels underground.
Marquee Elegance MD Danny Roberts enjoyed this particular job; 'The fort is pretty impressive. Although it's an old structure it has power and toilets on site which means that the client doesn't have to hire those facilities in. There is also lots of parking available and we can get our lorries directly to the marquee, meaning less manual handling.'
Wedding guests were also able to access the ramparts and we've heard that the staff at Nothe offer ghost tours for those who have the nerve to visit the narrow tunnels underneath the fort.
Whilst working on site we were chuffed to see our friends from the Peter Ashley Activity Centre at Fort Purbrook. Knowing that they are quite the thrill seekers I imagine that they were ghost hunting.
We hope that the bride and groom had a wonderful day and that they enjoyed their time at Nothe as much as we did.
