Wedding Catering - What are the choices?
When planning your wedding day one of the top considerations that needs to factored in early is catering. What are you going to offer on the menu?
Sounds simple doesn't it?
There are so many different styles of menu available for events from regional specialities to world cuisine options.
In this day and age the needs of you and your guests can be met by a professional local provider who will already be experienced in a wide variety of cuisine styles as well as dealing with dietary considerations for veggies, vegans and those with medically imposed food restrictions.
What about location?
This is no longer a restriction on what is possible with modern catering companies, over the years we have seen amazing menus from talented businesses serve up wholesome, delicious food in remote locations with seemingly no facilities, incredible.
What about dining style?
The great thing about a marquee wedding is the flexibility you have and being able to choose exactly how your day will look and feel, so will your dining be formal or informal?
Formal Wedding Catering
Weddings by their nature are a mix of generations coming together to join in your celebration so does that affect your decisions the type of seating and service you choose? Formal ‘Sit down’ meals with table service can feel like a real treat. They bring order and give your guests time to relax and enjoy their meal whilst enjoying a good chat, reminisce or catch up. To some this may sound a little dated however there a few options that can give you a different feel within a formal organised structure, like sharing platters or speciality taster menus to give a modern twist.
Informal Wedding Catering
If a "Sit Down" meal and the thought of anxious parents shouting at kids running around the tables or the politics of a tricky seating plan has you filled with dread or maybe it just isn't the vision for your big day, then a more informal style of food service is for you.
In truth informal wedding catering just means you can be flexible with your choices as it covers a variety of options such as buffets, bbqs, hog roasts and much more, possibly even a mix of 2 or more styles. These can be served as a buffet with seated dining or possibly a more relaxed seating arrangement such as rattan sofas or rustic benches and long feasting tables is your thing.
If neither the formal dining or informal dining floats your boat there so many modern alternatives that ooze relaxed hipster cool. Consider outside catering straight from a stand or van like a hog roast, Mexican chillis and burritos, wood fired pizzas, fish and chips or any of type of street food that takes your fancy to create a very chilled, informal wedding celebration.
Let's go back to the beginning
As we noted at the top of this page, wedding or event catering is something that needs to be factored in to your plans at an early stage. The outdoor wedding season in this country is relatively short so booking your first choice caterers can be hit or miss if left to the last minute. A marquee with heating, lighting and solid flooring does extend the season well in to the shorter days and darker nights, however your catering should still be booked well in advance.
If you have read this far then you've probably worked out that anything goes when it comes to catering.
